Key achievements of the SMC campaign in Côte d’Ivoire
Digital planning, real-time data collection and advanced analytical processing were central to the implementation of this campaign. The deployed data products enabled precise monitoring of vaccinated children, field teams and logistical flows across all four campaign cycles. The campaign was led by the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), in partnership with PMI and the Global Fund.
High coverage through structured, individual cohort tracking
The 2025 SMC campaign identified several hundred thousand eligible children. Nearly all received treatment during the current cycle, while a limited number were not treated for medical or contextual reasons. The system also integrated newly eligible children, demonstrating its ability to adapt dynamically to on-the-ground realities.
Thanks to individual child tracking, each beneficiary was registered with a QR code and a unique random identifier, ensuring reliable traceability across all four cycles. Several hundred thousands of children were continuously monitored, enabling the calculation of precise performance indicators by cohort and geographic area, and the rapid identification of coverage gaps.
A robust and interoperable digital data collection system
Data collection and processing were carried out using the IASO mobile application, deployed on more then 2,000 tablets configured specifically for the campaign. This ensured full coverage of all campaign areas.
Enumeration, administration, community mobilisation, supervision and independent monitoring data were collected continuously throughout the four cycles. Hundred thousands administration submissions were recorded per cycle, with each child quickly identified via their QR code. At the same time, delivery notes enabled accurate monitoring of medicine stocks, with automated calculation of remaining quantities after each administration.

Advanced analytics for real-time decision-making
Beyond data collection, the real added value lies in data processing. A data extraction platform was developed using OpenHEXA and SQL queries to centralise data from the various user profiles. This architecture made it possible to structure information across multiple distinct projects, ranging from micro-planning and logistics to independent monitoring.
Dashboards included geolocation modules, daily summaries and key logistics indicators such as coverage and consumption rates by age group. With 24h/24 server availability and automatic data updates, NMCP teams and partners benefited from immediate visibility on campaign progress, significantly strengthening operational responsiveness.

Our solutions and innovations moving forward
Investing in sustainable data collection and processing tools makes it possible to build on achievements from one year to the next. Through its IASO product, Bluesquare supports its partners with a focus on continuity, optimisation and innovation, leveraging the foundations already in place.
Building on existing assets to strengthen future campaign effectiveness
Once microplans are deployed, they can be reused the following year without having to be rebuilt from scratch. Baseline data—such as villages and target populations—are already available and only need to be updated. As stakeholders have already been trained on IASO mobile and web tools, targeted refresher training is sufficient to relaunch operations, significantly reducing both costs and timelines.

Training on how to use IASO
Reusing existing tools limits the need for additional software development, with adjustments focused on minor updates to forms and dashboards. This approach promotes the sustainability of data systems and strengthens national ownership of digital solutions.
Innovating to go further in monitoring and accountability
There are many opportunities for further development. Logistics tracking can be enhanced by enabling site managers to update stock levels in real time, manage delivery notes, track losses and receive restocking alerts. Individual traceability of supply packages—whether mosquito nets or SPAQ boxes—opens the door to improved supply chain security.
SMS reminders to parents for upcoming doses could improve adherence, while the digital submission of supporting documents would simplify expenditure tracking and validation. These innovations fully align with Bluesquare’s expertise in developing data products tailored to public health contexts.
